Speakers not working! Vista 32 home edition.

Post by Agile »

A couple of months ago, I turned my speakers off from within one of these programs which speeds up your computer by turning off programs not actually needed all the time. I also had in mind that the 16 y.o. was spending more time listening to facebook than her GCSEs.

Now I want it on again. Everything seems to be correct when I look at devices, drivers etc. When I put the cursor over the speaker icon it says "The audio Service is not Running" and gives me the opportunity to turn it back on. This seems to be accepted but it is not actually turned on!

Any ideas anyone?

Tony,

The speakers are, I take it, all plugged in and any power supply is also plugged in and swithched on. :hiding:

I don't have Vista so cannot check that it is correct, but try this:

Go to Control Panel -> Admin Tools -> Services
Double click Multimedia Class Scheduler which will probably be disabled.
Click Start and the audio should now be working.
Set this to start automatically.

The Mallard-man again!

I followed the Administrative Tasks line and there were TWO audio listings, the first audio devices was shown as working correctly. The second an Audio End Builder was disabled.

Whatever that does, enabling it has got me audio back on so very many thanks.

I can get you a personal tour of the listed building Kew signalbox when my friend is back on shift again, as a reward!

Glad you got the sound back, it was just a matter of trying to find what had been disabled when you used that program to speed things up. Not having Vista it was a matter of searching for a list of possible solutions and suggesting the best possible one first.

Thanks for the offer, but I am in Central Lancashire and don't get south very often. I will remember it if I get to travel down to London for some reason. Cheers.
