Wood chips or bark

I have sourced wood chips and bark in bulk but dont know which one is better for putting around my bushes etc?

Also how far does a tonne of chips stretch? At around 2 inch depth? or do you think this isnt thick enough to surpress the weeds?

What you should do is put a weed mat down first, plant whatever, and put the chips/bark on the top of the mat.

Has it been left for 6 months or more, otherwise it can leach all the goodness from your soil unless you put a weed suppressant membrane down as Scruff says.

2" or 50mm should suffice.

I dont know how old it will be but guess not 6 months anyway. most of the garden is established plants so wasnt going to put a mat down as would be very difficult to put it around all of the garden.

Do you know how far a tonne will stretch? Will a tonne equate to 3 cube?

Nearer 1 cube I would have thought, depends how wet they make it.
