Drilling through tiles on plasterboard

Post by mandi2583 »

Hi there,
I am a newbie looking for some advice please.
Have just tiled new shower. They are ceramic tiles are on plasterboard wall.. To fix shower door I need to drill through tiles which as I have said are on plasterboard.Could someone advice which rawlplug I should use please? The ones for plasterboard, or the brown ones?
Also the place I need to fix the door is unfortunately close to the edge of the ceramic tiles.I have read through the forums and found that using correct drill bit and using masking tape is best, however, because I need to drill quite close to edge of tile could someone advice me on how NOT to crack the tiles???
Many thanks

You will need plasterboard plugs. For drilling, just take it slowly with a new masonry bit for ceramic tiles, breaking through the glaze first, then through the biscuit. If they are porcelain, you will be better off with a diamond core bit.

mark tiles then cover with masking tape, then as above slow speed on the drill with masonry bit..but i would use brown raw plugs as the door will be fitted to the tiles then silicone down door.

Just to stop the drill bit from "Wandering" it won't stop cracking of the tile..
