64bit vs 32 bit...

So new lappy (ToshibaL500) apparently runs 64 bit...lots of stuff wont work...Adobe flash player as an example...have tried to download V10.1 of Adobe from labs...won't have it..

can't play U tube vids..can't play music..(From free sites..) unless I use Mozzie Firefox..32 bit version..which kinda defeats having a 64 bit machine...comments / solutions anyone

64 bit windows will run all the above your main problem seems tobe an issue with flash

flash installs as a x86 package as there are known problems with 64bit version under windows 7

run the flash install from the adobe's web site rather than downloading and installing flash

It should autodetect the os and install the correct version automatically after the install its worth doing a restart

Tried that more than once....can still only get it to work with a 32 bit browser

The 64bit version of IE will only run 64bit plug-ins. As most IE plugins are only available as 32bit. I would recommend you stick with the 32bit version of IE. 32bit IE is the default option on 64bit Windows precisely because of the lack of 64bit plugins e.g. Flash. I believe that Adobe are working on a 64bit version of Flash, but it's not fully released yet http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/000/6b3af6c9.html

Yes, it's the 64bit browser that is your problem, not the 64bit win 7.

As said, for some reason flash doesn't support 64bit at present.

I have flash on my Win7 64 bit...
Windows 7 will be the last 32-bit operating system Microsoft bring out.
64-bit windows just allows it to make use of more memory... 32-bit machines there is no point in having any more than 4gb of RAM, 64-bit makes use of allot more maybe upto a terrabyte in the future.

As the others have said, most addons for IE only work on the IE32bit version, so the easiest thing to do is put the icon for 32bit IE in your Taskbar and click that to open your browser.

In Start -> All Programs you will find two listings for IE, one is "Internet Expplorer (64-bit)", the other is just "Internet Explorer".
Right click on the second one and click 'Pin To Taskbar'.
Once the icon is there, you can click and hold it and slide it along the taskbar to whichever position you want.
