Let Microsoft try to fix it:

READ all the instructions first:

http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cd_dvd_drive_problems

Then if it puts up a message, write it down before proceeding to the next stage.

Enable the Auto Run:
http://autorun.moonvalley.com/enable.htm

Or go to My computer and right click on the DVD drive icon and click Open

Just a quick question.
Did the DVD play on your laptop before you did the reinstall, I mean the actual disk that will not play now.

Brilliant. Fantastic. F**kin' marvelous.

So its not codecs or anything like that, your computer does not recognise the DVD drive.

Since you reinstalled your Windows (was it XP?) it has not recognised your DVD player but how did you reinstall, using a disk or what?

Follow the Microsoft link:

http://support.microsoft.com/gp/cd_dvd_drive_problems

to try and see if they can fix it.

As for Norton saying that the Windows Media Player site:
http://winmediaplayer2010.com/
is dangerous, I think it is about time you f*cked Norton off and get some decent free security software. It is a bloody Windows Media site ffs, what is Norton playing at.

So, in My Computer, there is no icon for the CD/DVD Player? :dunno:

You have tried VLC Player and that does not work. :dunno:

You have downloaded and installed K-Lite Codecs and that does not work. :dunno:

You have tried the Microsoft FixIt and that did not work. :dunno:

All with no success.

Rather than waste anymore time, take it to a local computer shop and ask them to have a look at it, because something is not right and it needs a 'hands-on' approach, to make sure that everything is done and checked correctly.
