Anybody got any ideas about this problem...
I have just got a set-top box fot digital, and it's hooked up to a roof ariel. The problem is this. I'm getting fine picture, but the sound is really low, and hissy. I have to put it through the stereo amp and turn it right up to hear it, and then it's got terrible hiss. Any ideas?

First thing that comes to mind is is the arial powerful enough but then again if it wasnt I'd expect the picture quality to be less than good as well. My second thought would be down to the connection between STB and TV/Audio. If using SCART is it a cheap one (i.e less than £10 or £30 if you bought it in Comet/Currys ). Cheap SCART's dont have good connectivity with the pins and not all have the pins wired up altho' I wouldn't expect that to be the issue otherwise the lead isn't fit for purpose.
It may be worth going to a reputable AudioVisual retailer (so that excludes Currys/Comet etc) and buying a better quality lead - presuming that you aren't already using one.
Check with Freeview to see if this is a common issue.

ok my thoughts
turn the tuner off for at least 2 mins
whilst you waiting check both ends of the scarts are fully home
if there is something else in circuit connect the scart directly from freeveiw to telly
try a different scart lead direct to the tv
try different sockets on tuner and tv
try just the arial lead between tuner and telly if fitted
dont forget the fault can be with any new or unused component that can include a scart socket on your old equipment that havent been used before so not nesserily on the new equipment
