Help - need a nice lookng cheap tile/bordr for bathroom ?

Post by bilabonic »

Hi All

Not sure where to post it and been looking through thr galleries etc.

I am in the process of redoing my bathroom on a tight budget and looking to tile it with a border. Problem is it is quite large and all tiles seem quite expensive.....

Love the look of travertine or something light in colour/sandy..

Anyone in the trade use a smart cheap looking tile or part tiled room to effect ??

Cheers

Yes, border tiles are expensive, but they make such a difference. Take a tip from me,
make sure you get enough and then add at least 10%, so you don't end up with a gap behind the mirror as happened to me! :cb Still looking for two that only Tiles r Us sold, then they went bust.

My shame here:

Yes, that was the first place I tried, as soon as I knew I was short of two. But there were none in any of their warehouses two years ago. I also needed extra tiles for above the border, and found that Everett Tiles in Sussex still had some, but they had never had the borders.

There are plenty of cheap ceramic travertine look-alikes around. e.g. Padova 80 is one of Topps best sellers. Make a border to go with them from travertine mosaics.

Anyone used these tiles ?

Do you use them from floor to ceiling on walls ? and on the floor or does it look to much ??

Not good at picking these sort of things and got no woman handy to do it for me...lol

I'm not a lover of all walls floor to ceiling, we did 2 walls the ones the bath is in contact with and we have an over bath shower. The other walls are just painted plaster.

Quite light and less imposing than all 4 walls tiled. The room is also quite small.

Would be a budget saver only doing 2 walls too? :thumbright:

as yeager says just tile the areas that need it then paint the rest, it saves money and makes a change cheaper too as a gallon of emulsion is nowhere near as expensive as a room full of tile, if your not full tiling why not get a nice metal trim to finish the tiles with less expensive option again! :thumbleft:

I am with Jaeger and marc.........Whether it is a mahoosive bathroom with bath, separate shower and bum washer or a tiny bathroom where you hit your head on the wall drying your feet, fully tiled looks pants.

Just something about having areas of painted walls which breaks the room up, adds interest and makes it less sterile looking.

Thats the single box price. If you buy 4 sq mtrs+ they are £20.93 for the 316 x 316 or £27.93 for the 316 x 450.

I've used them several times.

If you want a simple boarder, then just buy a pack of sheet mosaics, normally about 12" x 12" square and then just cut them into strips.

Have done this plenty of times.

These are the sort of things -

They are only £20 for a pack and you will probably do the whole room with some to spare (unless its a massive room ... :-P
