Flat screen monitors

Post by tagdog14 »

Hi Fellow Technos,

Does anyone know how easy it is to repair a flat screen monitor? My daughter the starving student, BLESS!!! after me saying it was a stupid idea has just bought 10 used ones with the hope of making some holiday funds. They are from a large office and may have been left on overnight so could be that something has burnt out. I thought if we could try to repair one and take it from there.

Any help appreciated

David :help: :help:

Is your Daughter Blond and living in Essex.

If the screen has gone find the nearest skip, or flog them on eBay for 50p job lot.

You really need to find out what if anything is wrong with them.

You get two main faults.

1. cracked screen - not worth repairing
2. b*ggered backlight - fixable but hardly worth the hassle.

Unless the screens are 'exceptional' in some way (i.e. high resolution, large size, popular make) they are, as said, rarely worth repairing - especially if you're not familiar with the techniques.
Don't take it personally......

They are from a large office

So they are probably about five year sold, and will have had very intensive use. IT technicians will probably never have looked at them or tried to clean then internally, because if one packs up the techs just connect a new one and sling the faulty one.
New screens are so cheap now and most 'computer kits' come with everything to get going.
They will probably be 4 x 3 screens and not wide screen so no one will want them second hand.
with the hope of making some holiday funds
She probably won't make enough for a night out at Sarfend or Blackpool.

If any are scrapped, I need a replacement stand for a monitor I have here which is missing its stand, but is otherwise ok.
I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.
