Preparing Walls for Fitting Glass Splashbacks

Hi, long time no post - long time no DIY either

I'm on to my next project - fitting painted glass splashbacks in my kitchen. The order is in but now I need to turn my attention to preparing the wall and this is where the question/s lie...

The wall was plastered a few years back (been a bit slow getting round to this room) and has since become soiled with the usual cooking splashes etc, plus emulsion sample painting patches. There's a few bumps too.

I plan to clean the wall with sugar soap, sand smooth, and then I figure I should do something to the surface to ensure the silicon adhesive gets a good hold.

Anyone spot any problems with the plan so far?
Any suggestions of what to use to treat the surface? I thought about watered down PVA but I'm not sure whether this is suitable/good enough?

Bottom line - I don't want £600 worth of glass parting company with the wall!

Hi Matt,

I would PVA the wall to seal it, then use a good quality panel adhesive that will stick glass, think I used yellow grip-fil for my mirrors, it's solvent free!

Thanks for the vote for PVA. What mix ratio would you use? With regard to the adhesive - I've been told I need to use a low [something or other content] silicon to ensure it does not affect the paint on the back of the glass.
