Wet Room

Yes, gents, I am considering the installation of a wetroom. It's on wooden floor upstairs. Is this an easy project to take on?
Are the kits easyly avialable or will I have to design one myself? Cheers

I installed a wet area in the bathroon to provide an open shower. I used the old shower tray and fitted concrete blocks around the tray to extend the area by 600mm. I then tiled on the blocks -obviously using waterproof cement and grout - and the result is excellent. No leaks through the existing wooden floor.
If i was doing a bigger area then I would use a tanking system.

Thanks mikeb, well appreciated. I want the wetroom 2b a walk-in shower, sort of. No difference in the floor level cept for the drain area, as it needs 2b a bit lower to aid drainage. I just wondered if there are kits out there for this purpose?

Floorboards up............suitable 'tray' down and then you ply up to it. Then tank. Then tile.

Many thanx royaloak, I think I better go check that website. I keep immagining that if I fit tray (as u said) flush with boards, ply, tank, & tile, I'll end up with lip by tray area? Well, I better check video. Cheers m8!

There won't be a lip by the tray. It is a flat tray especially for use in wet rooms.

Always tank a wetroom, even more so on a first floor bathroom. There are many different systems on the market, from paint on to membranes, try Impey, Ditra, Dura-wp or paint on systems like Mapegum, Bal WP1, Homelux

dont forget the water flow from your shower also,make sure you get a tray that can handle the water flow..ya dont want to much ponding and the water running out the door down the hall...

make sure you fit the former to mfr spec also.

sorry it has taken me this long to communicate, but i was not around? now i'm back, i have decided to postpond the project for the time being.
