Tiling

Just moved house & have been left an old tiled shower tray.
I want to tile over the old one's but need to know what type of tiles, adhesive/grout can be used please.
Any info please.

It is tempting to do this but you will always wish you did it properly in the long run and I would say rip them off and do it fresh. Have you thought whether the shower screen (if you have one) will adjust enough to allow for the double thickness of tiles?. Most adhesives will stick tile to tile but make sure you have cleaned down property and scratch up the surface of the old tiles with a block with a few masonry nails tapped through as a scratcher. The new tiles should stagger over the old ones so the joint lines are not aligned.

You can't go wrong with Bal adhesive and grout, make sure you get some flexible additive for the adhesive and grout.

Nicobond do one especially for overtiling old tiles.

believe it or not but you get a realy good bond when you put tile on tile, just make sure you clean the old tiles first

what type and size are the exsisting tiles,i ask this because you will have to be carefull as to what bagged adhesive you will use..are they ceramic are they glazed or unglazed,or quarry tile etc...

some adhesive wont take to exsisting glazed tiles.

again regarding exsisting tiles how thick are they,.. what type are they,..what is the subtrate they are on..plasterboard/sand/cement render..etc

i ask because you have to watch out for the NEW weight your putting on the wall(per m2)...
