Any beading recommendations AFTER tiles have been placed?

Hello all,

I'm new to the forum and stumbled across this site - looks great!

Following a new great kitchen installation, the fitter made a huge error and fitted tiles without any beading. As this is one of the finishing touches people look at, it really does play on the eye.
Having mentioned this to him he said there is beading available that can be put on top, he's managed to find some, but it is only in short lengths and he will continue to look for longer lengths with no breaks that can be used.

Predictably he hasn't been back. Would someone mind recommending some beading that would be able to fix this eyesore? It is making my elderly mother quite unhappy.

pics might be a good idea here..depending on the situation you may be able to remove the grout/adhesive to accept a trim...

A Bosch PMF will remove the adhesive as Wine-O suggests, unless you want to put a border row above

I wouldn't have said that not having beading along the top is an error...........I think it looks worse with beading along the top. There are other ways to finish off the top detail.

We always give the option of beading the tops if the tiling is not full height and this is only taken up on a few occasions. The vast majority of our clients only want corner beading.

I think that might be the picture angle, Scruff, making the courses look out. I would hope so, anyway.

Grouting is cack too.

rate my trade..........excellent builders dot com............top nuts tilers sites are all a bit hit and miss. You are not guaranteed a top notch tradesmen or job. All you are guaranteed is that friends and family have put lots of reviews in for them lol. Anything above that is luck.

It's not the angle the tops of the tiles are at different heights and the detail round the lightswitch

Thanks for the sympathy and at least it's not all in my head. However, apart from having a moan, I also wanted to know if there is anything to remedy this, cheaply and effectively? For example, Razor if you couldn't live with it what would you do mate?

Personally I wouls kick his backside til it was redone but assuming that'snot an option?

The section with the lightswitch have the single row of tiles on the left replaced at the correct height and knock off the top row of tiles so they don't cover the switch unless you want to have the switch raised.

No he seems to have done one unfortunately and not picking up his phone and no mention on coming back to finish it. I see what you're saying about the light switch, I guess that can be moved up a bit.

Any suggestions on to make this existing situation good would be great.

Take the corner tiles off, fit corner trim and then put new tiles on.

I couldn't live with a plastic angle bead being put over them. Although a thin guage metal angle trim would look ok, depending how flat his tiling is.

I wouldn't worry about the tops of the tiles. Good neat bead of silicone will make a big improvement, or caulking and then paint walls again.

If it was my place, I would have to rip all the tiles off and have it done properly.

Hmmm, not the best job there - but.............

Assuming you don't want to rip the lot off and start again or spend too much cash I'd personally recommend adding a row of edging tiles with trim.

To sort the light switch I'd fit a box switch that sits proud of the wall and run a bead of silicone around the box to make it neat.

I'd also keep on at trying to get the tiler back to sort out his job.

Hi Royal,

I understand what you're saying, but I'd rather not have them all ripped out unless I had to, mainly because of the cost and inconvenience. As you mentioned is it possible totake just the corner tiles off, fit corner trims of and then put new tiles on?

Anyone in the Macclesfield/Manchester area fancy a job from this?
