X-Box Live
Hi Guys,
My 13 year old has an X-Box 360, he now wants X-Box Live. I suspect it will eat our broadband width (we already have 2 PC's and 2 i-phones running off the Wifi). Do you think that this will be the case? Also, having BT Broadband, when the kids were downloading stuff of the internet, we stung for extra gigs downloaded. Is this likely to be the case with X-Box Live?
Thanks for any advice!
Regards,
Simon

Re: X-Box Live
I've got 2 desktops, 2 laptops mainly being used for BBC iplayer etc, and a Xbox live running. I'm on 8meg (Ha, Ha!) Tiscali Broadband. The Xbox live doesn't appear to have any impact on my internet use. Just mean sons spends a lot of time shouting into a microphone.

Re: X-Box Live
I'm on xbox live and I do notice a massive lag on it if I am playing away and between matches I click on a link on the pc. If he does go on xbox live there is a special on at the moment for 1 months gold for £1 - get as much as that as you can - gold is usually around £45 a year

Re: X-Box Live
As ever, it depends on what's happening on each piece of equipment that is connected to the interweb. Just because a PC is online doesn't mean it's hogging the bandwidth. Whatever is available is shared between the systems connected and for most applications the bandwidth in 'immediate' use is very small.
Also, if you have an 'unlimited' option with BT then sign up NOW! It's far too easy to exceed a limit even without an XBox connected (although the XBox isn't a particularly heavy bandwidth user anyway).

Don't take it personally......

Re: X-Box Live
been with BT since they rolled out broadband, play xbox a lot and never had a problem, as you say it should only lag a bit if you are downloading as well as playing on xbox live
if you shop around you can get 12 months xbox live for just under 30 quid a year

Re: X-Box Live
also if you keep your eye out on the Xbox Live Dashboard there are offers on their for Gold Membership. At the moment it is an offers for 1 month for £1. Not sure how many times you can take up the offer but if you could do it 12 times for an annual membership then that is pretty cheap
