What free security

My norton 360 is about to finish,what free security that does the same job as the norton 360 is recommended?

Hi another good free solution is Comodo Internet Security for Windows (anti-virus, firewall, defence +)

I use that software and supplement it with malwarebytes

and superantispyware

http://www.superantispyware.com/

All three are free and when used together give good all round protection
sorry I should say all three provide free versions you can if you wish buy the "full product" where the full product provides additional features

Also you might consider secunia PSI which keeps you upto date on the security of installed programs
and lets you know if patches/updates need installing, keeping you safe

First thing to remember is to cancel any annual payments to Norton that you may have set up on your credit/debit card previously.

Then use the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall Norton. DO NOT try to rmove it any other way as it will leave lots of it behind and possibly prevent you installing any other antivirus software.

I stopped recommending a particular program years ago because everyone has their favourite which protects them and has not given them any problems so they used to argue that theirs was better than mine.

For informatiom ONLY,
I use
Comodo Internet Security which includes Firewall, Antivirus, Defense+. It nags a bit when first installed until it gets to know what programs you use and what you download, but it then sits in the background and auto updates itself frequently.
Windows Defender Antispyware for realtime protection
MalwareBytes (MBAM) for weekly scans.
SuperAntiSpyware (SAS) for weekly scans on different days to MBAM
WinPatrol for its monitoring of what is happening in the background.

Just because I use it does not necessarily mean it is the best, but they work for me, and I do occassionally uninstall one and try a newer version of one of the other freebies to see how it compares. So if you asked me after Christmas, my list may be different but still working to protect me.

My norton 360 sub finished so removed and
decided to go for the top three of the above ,dont know if i need to download the secunia,anyway when downloading the comodo they ask if you want to use their secure servers, if you did you may need to contact admin ,i opted not to use their secure servers dont no if this was right

I had AVG free and it slowed the computer right down, Changed to Avast and it's 10 xs faster.

Not using the COMODO secure DNS servers is the safest bet if you want to avoid any connection issues. Without going into too much detail, DNS is the process by which a server's IP address (e.g. 92.48.118.142 for UHM.co.uk) is resolved to the server name e.g. http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk. If you use the COMODO DNS servers they should prevent you accessing a mailicious website because when your computer looks up the IP address of the website the DNS servers will know it's a malicious site and not give your computer the IP address, so you can't view the website. If you decide you want to switch to the secure DNS servers you can go here for instructions: http://www.comodo.com/secure-dns/switch/

Thanks rich does the comodo update itself ,do you think i need to download anything else so i have the same protection as norton 360 gave me ,what about secunia and winpatrol,cheers.
