Tile or Shower wall for upstairs shower

Hi,
So today we have ripped out the old shower cubicle and tray as it had been leaking underneath since before we moved in and we have just discovered the situation ( have also posted in carpentry about rotten floorboard). I have taken 4 rows of ceramic tiles down and the plaster has just crumbled like sand Even the bricks behind are damp and it has gone through to the other side of the wall ( the upstairs hall wall). Once the bricks have dried out and we have gotten new plaster up I am not sure whether to retile with ceramic tiles or go for a shower wall panel as some people have mentioned online ? It is an upstairs shower and we want to get it really water tight before we put in a new shower cubicle and tray ? Also, if we did go down the shower wall route, should it be put up before the shower tray goes in ? Any help would be most gratefully received.

I wouldnt bother re-plastering. Remove all the plaster, let the area dry out, fix Aquapanel/Hardiebacker or similar then tile.

There is no approved way of fixing AP/HB to a brick wall as far as I'm aware. Or rather, you'd be required to batten the wall out first. Losing space and time etc. Not to mention dpm etc etc.

If you're using a shower wall (which i assume is a 100% non permeable plastic product) theres no point wasting money on aquapanel. You might as well just resurface the wall in plasterboard dot n dabbed on. Concentrate on getting it square/plumb. Basically you need to decide which u want as a finish, tiles or shower wall before relevant advice can be given. Either can be made to work.

I would just do what has been mentioned bond and plasterboard.

Then pva the board and tile.

You can tile down to your base and seal around it or butt the base up to the tiles. either way it doesnt matter.

I wouldn't use PVA before tiling as it can react with the adhesive. Better to seal plasterboard with a primer which is recommended by the adhesive manufacturer.

Does your shower tray sit on the floor or is it on legs??

Hi guys
Using PVA on any surface to be tiled is absoloutely out of the question. The tile adhesive will re-activate the PVA and compromise the bond.
