Run mbam on the other computer after an update and it detects an infection on a full scan but not a quick scan. ::b

Yes!!!

When the scan is complete, click > OK, then > Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click > Remove Selected.
* When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Save this log to My Documents in case it is needed for reference.

The message in the log said.

my computer etc etc "Registryfix.exe (rogue installer)"

Seems to be quarantined.

Registryfix seems to work still, and I'll run a full scan again later.

There appears to be some confusion on the web to whether RegistryFix is malware or not. Spybot also detects it as malware. Take a look at these two links http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=22617 http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=22055 Does this sound like the program MBAM has detected on your machine?

Yep sounds about right.

Don't show on a quick scan though.

It won't show up on a quick scan if the scan doesn't look where RegistryFix is installed. A quick scan will only scan the areas where malware is most likely to be. That's how it's faster than a full scan, which scans all the files on the selected drive.
