I use it for instant messaging friends as it's quicker than sending an email if the other person is online and you want to have a chat. I've got a Hotmail account and it pops up a message when I get a new email which is useful.Mooncat wrote:Windows Live Messenger loads when I start. Does anyone here use it, and why?

Yahoo is good, I use gmail and never get any spam with that but I don't think the interface is as nice as Yahoo but as I use my iPhone I hardly ever use the web portal.

I would say Googlemail aka gmail all the way. I prefer the interface to yahoo and definetely over windows live mail aka hotmail.
Only issue I have is a few muppets with the same name as me have got mail sent to my address which means I now get a ton of spam, along with alumni emails, golf club newsletters and a heap of other rubbish. I know one of them is British and another is an american photographer working in the middle east.
Things I like about Gmail: secure HTTPS logon, IMAP and POP access so you can use outlook, thunderbird etc to check your mail, oh and 7 odd gigs of storage so you don't have to delete anything, plus a spam filter which catches about 95% of the rubbish sent. Plus on the whole it just works, I think I have seen 2 hiccups since 2002 both solved in a few hours with no loss of mail

Re: The best webmail account?!
Another recommendation for Google Mail here!
Takes a little while to get use to the interface, but I wouldn't go back now.
Also if you want an email address you can keep like james@mynamehere.co.uk you can use the free version of Google Apps.
Regards
Rutter
