Hi
I am tiling a small floor area for the first time. I was wondering if an angle grinder with a diamond blade would be the best way to cut through ceramic tiles. They are 400x400 and about 10mm thick. Most of the cuts will be straight, but some will need to be L shaped to fit round a column. I have used an angle grinder to cut through brick, but never tile. I assume it is a messy job!
Angle grinder?

Or hire one ?Jet wrote:You can buy wet bed tile cutters with a diamond cutting wheel quite cheaply these days. This would be the best and safest way to cut unusual shapes.

Re: Angle grinder?
Cutters are cheap these days, the wet cutter can be bought from most DIY stores for around £30. i use wet cutters, but prefer the traditional tile cutter for straight cuts. i just had to buy a new cutter because i think my old one has seen better days... £37 for a 600mm heavy duty cutter cant be bad, using the angle grinder may also cause the edge of the tile to chip if your not careful.
