Nice roof

Went to put a couple of bits of steel in a new extension roof...
Chippys got the ply nailed down, shame we had to pull it up again to get the steel in.
Still, uncouvered a few nice bits of carpentry ;)

I'm guessing that the carpenters made a real mess of it and you had to fix it using the steel?

There was about 3 or 4 of them wrongly notched ones in various places
All cut out with a circ saw too, the kerf is halfway across the reminder of he rafter

The engineer ballsed up, designed the roof with a tie across at head height... defeats the object of a vaulted ceiing
So we put in an extra bit to support the ridge, and stop the eaves spreading apart under the weight.


Shame about the chippy work really, everything else is a nice job.

Nothing wrong in using a circular saw for the ends of the rafters, I wouldn't be sodding about doing the seat and plumb cuts with one though.

No excuse for work like that. Roofing isn't rocket science. All they needed to do was use two sheets of ply to mark ridge and plate onto and place rafter onto it and mark up...............no maths, no geometry, just the idiots full proof guide to marking rafters.

Last time I cut a roof I used the previous rafter as the template for the next one. Problem with that is that a small marking error in one will lead to a small error in the next and so on.

Hmmmmm walls being out............had that years ago, we could tell the building was out of square just by looking at it but the site agent insisted everything was bang on, as he had been checking. It was meant to have 6" soffit and although 3 sides were 6" the 4th side of the building was 6" increasing to 8" pmsl. Trussed roof too and so not a lot that could be done except pass the buck back to the site agent.

Shameful, i'm not pro but I know a rubbish job when I see one! I sincerely hope someone more competent is working the job, or complete it. For some reason the program Cowboy Builders come to mind!

the really dumb thing is that these ****ups would actually chew up a lot of time. so bad job and probably took as long as it would to do it well.
