Extensions cannot connect to adsl

Hi

We recently had the garage converted, finished last week, had a week off to move everything with decorations. On saturday I moved my PC with BT broadband from conservatory to ex-garage, but couldn't get any internet signal.

At the moment we got 6 phone socket, from what i understood going around, last time BT engineer came out to sort our poor connection he changed the Main Socket from front door to Conservatory and used a BT ADSL Adaptor Front Plate for NTE5

The 5 sockets seems to be all extensions after the ADSL filter, which from what i understood mean none can be used for ADSL access.
Our "setup" is like this :
Master Socket => Main phone
Ext 1 => unused
Ext 2 => unused
Ext 3 => 2nd handset phone
Ext 4 (added 3 weeks ago in garage conversion) => SKy HD
Ext 5 (same as 3) => PC with BT Broadband

from what i read aswell i understand it's better to filter the adsl signal out for sky HD.
So my question is what should i do ?
as i see things my options are as follow :
-> put the BT broadband into conservatory and go buy a wireless card (really not a fan of wireless)
-> Replace the master socket and put adsl filters in all extensions (rather costly)
- and may be need a cable pulled from master socket to extension 4 for adsl only (really not sure about this)

Any clue ?

Each socket should be paralleled off the master. Each extension socket requires it's own ADSL filter.

well the good things with what the BT engineer did last time was we didn't need Filter anymore beside the one we were plugged (main socket)

we threw all filters and it worked fine for over a year till we had to leave the room with main socket.

was the first and that's my master socket.

third option on first post was to used a modified version of the faceplate sold by this website (agreed by BT) that would allow further adsl connection but not sure if we need extra cable to plug directly in extension 4

MODIFIED BT Engineers' ADSL Filter/Splitter Faceplate for NTE5 Master boxes

Explanation

As the Clarity faceplate has both filtered and unfiltered terminals, if your line 4 is filtered now, connect to the filtered terminals, if unfiltered, connect to the unfiltered terminals.
Run another extension from the unfiltered terminals to the garage and you can then plug a filter in if you need one.
Edit, if you have run a line already to the garage for your broadband, use the unfiltered terminals and your phone extension should be fine with a local filter plugged into the socket in the garage.

for now i think i got only filtered line as evertying is parralel from the master socket, i do not have the clarity one but the BT one (adsl filter in master socket).

should i go buy the clarity modified master socket to solve my issue ?

Just reread your OP and am curious as to what you plugged into in the garage when you could not get broadband in the garage.

Was it a new extension that you had wired and if so, where did you connect the business end to?

Have you tried an extension from the conservatory (which worked) to the garage? Ensuring you have the correct coloured wires at the right terminals.

well i didn't do anything beside testing ;p
The electrician hired by the builder basicly just ran an extension lead with 6 wires from extension 2 to create ext 4/5.
i undid the socket in my search to understand our problem, and they just did a point to point connection, from what used to the the original Master socket (BT engineer changed master socket to conservatory over a year ago, aswell as using the faceplate adsl filter).

for my test i used the BT broadband modem 2.0 that we connect usually with and tried with and without adsl filter in garage, none of extension 2/4/5 worked this way.
Extension 2 being directly connected to Master Socket with 3 wires (2,3 and 5, forgot colors as i'm at work without my paper but was O/w, B/w and w/b)

So the problem is not just the garage ext but three others as well. When you say did not work, was that just the B/B or the phone too?

To try and eliminate the possible problems, I would call at Maplins on your way home and pick up a basic BT NTE5 faceplate and, if you don't have any, a couple of plug in ADSL filters.
Change the BT faceplate for the basic one and connect your extensions into the same numbered terminals as they are at the moment, then try your system, using the plug in filters.
Recheck all the connected wires in all the extension sockets, I suggest this becasue the guy in the next thread has a picture where his wires are obviously connected wrong.

If no success, disconnect the 6 core that the sparky installed, from all the sockets that don't work, then reconnect just one socket at a time.

phone does work well, tried on all of them, rang mobile without problem.
faceplate + 5 filters gonna be expensive :/

will give a call to electrician tonight to see what he think, how much would an extra cable cost to pull and if it's feasable.

no matter what i have to spend something somewhere and no internet connection in mean time at home ;/

best bet is to a pull a clean line in from the master socket on the incoming unfiltered line to avoid any dasy chaining

any ext coming off the nte willl be filtered by the nte, sky boxes are well known for causing problems

so all its going to cost you is the cable + time to install

talked to the electrician last night, he think it's better to just move the master socket where my pc is supposed to plug.

Bt's filtered faceplates only provide terminals on the back for filtered connections.
ADSLNation do a filtered faceplate with both filtered and unfiltered terminals.
Easy solution is to add the filtered faceplate and either move the garage extension wiring onto the unfiltered terminals and filter at the garage end OR add a new cable from the master faceplate unfiltered terminals to the garage going to an RJ11 socket which the router cord should plug directly into.
Buy good quality phone cable if you do this, better cable = better connection speeds. I had spare Cat 5 ethernet cable laying around so I used that in my last place, but in many respects that is overkill and more expensive than decent phone cable.
