Removing old tiling adhesive

Post by acstewart25 »

Hi, recently hacked off my tiles to kitchen above worktop but left with the old adhesive. I'm worried about damaging the substrate (plasterboard on timber studs with skim). How do you go about removing this prior to re-tiling??
Cheers :thumbright:

A good quality scraper should make it easy. If it is difficult then you could try steaming the adhesive a little to soften it.

I've not tried direct off plasterboard (there was a thread recently about NOT tiling direct onto Aquapanel). Taking the old adhesive off plaster I've used a wallpaper scraper and a hammer. The thin blade of the scraper gets between the 2 surfaces and I tap gently. Probably only works when dabs of adhesive has been used.
