tiling a bathroom ceiling

Just away to look at a job where the customer wants the entire ceiling tiled in already completed bathrooms.

Going to measure up and get details of the type of tiles etc he wants up there.

I would think the ceiling would need to be replaced with screwed cement boards ??? (to be able to take the weight??)

he seen it in a top end development he was looking at. Looking at one small downstairs loo (easy and would be fine on the existing plasterboard, just screw into the joists again??), and a big bathroom thats in the eaves, so a 4m x 2m ceiling that then reveals down the slope of the roofline to lower window height, this sloping area on 2 sides adds another 8 square metres.

The big bathroom will be an interesting one.................... I think the walls should be wallpapered in some sort of fancy paper instead

Tiling a ceiling???

Sod it - lay tiles on backer boards first then screw them to the ceiling!

I've tiled a ceiling before...........

Once a .7m square area that was under a stair landing, and was in the shower......... so low and getting wet from the shower steam,

And small versions all the time when you tile window reveals when tiling bathrooms floor to ceiling.....just not 8 square metres

have seen this done! the tiles are tied on cables that go through the ceiling aswell as being bonded with addy! the cables sto pthe tile from smahing some poor sod on the head if the addy gives out!

depending on the size of tile it may need to be mechanically fixed too or resin bonded. Mosaic would be easier as they are in the most part light weight. Tiled ceilings are done all the time in the US and Laticrete is used if you can get away without the need for mechanical fixings

so what size and type is it your fixing to the ceiling?...handyman..

get some of that lino that looks like tiles and stick that on
no seriously depending on the weight of the tiles etc I would be concerned not only of them falling off, but also of ceiling sag. would defo need to change from plasterboard though as plaster bord is obviuosly covered in paper which the plaster from the ceiling skim sticks to and then in return you will be sticking tiles to so the paper will rip with the weight bringing the lot down (if that makes sense).
