I move recently into a flat with a working master telephone socket with 1-6 connected. However, the box is broken and I would like to replace that.
Purchased a new master socket with 2,3,5 behind the front plate and A,B behind the back plate.
I guess 2,3,5 will connect to the same 2,3,5 but no idea which of the rest should connect to A and B.
Any help will be appreciated!!!
By the way, the current connections are as follow:
1 - Green with White Ring
2 - Blue with White Ring
3 - Orange with White Ring
4 - White with Orange Ring
5 - White with Blue Ring
6 - White with Green Ring
master socket with 1-6 and 2,3,5,A&B

Re: master socket with 1-6 and 2,3,5,A&B
2 and 5 are the only ones you need to connect at the front. If the bell does not ring (it should) then connect 3 again, as that is the old ringer wire. All the other wires should be loosely coiled so as not to touch one another's bare bits (cheeky) nor the metal contacts.
The drop wire from outside the house should be connected to A and B. There may be four wires in the cable but only the two that were connected to the old master skt should be used in the new one.

Thanks Dave. Can you tell me for my case, which are the A and B wires?

Re: master socket with 1-6 and 2,3,5,A&B
Are they still connected to the old master socket?
If not:
The BT Drop Cable (The cable coming from the outside world)
This often has Orange, White, Green and Black wires. Usually (but not always) Orange and White are the active pair and go to connections A & B.
Which way around they are connected usually doesn't matter:
