tiling around rad pipes
i have my radiator pipes coming out of the floor, so do i have to take off the valves off the pipes to put the tile over the pipework or would it look really shoddy if the tile was cut up to the pipe and a gap at the back behind the pipe filled in with grout please dont shout at me for asking that .

if you really want to drain the heating system down, with all the potential problems that can involve, then do as you suggest, drill the tiles and slip over..
If you go for plan B and cut and grout, use pipe collars to hide the unsightly bits....

Yes where the pipe exits the floor/tile apply a bead of silicon to seal it, not grout.bgatty68 wrote:the scruff silicone around the pipe before putting the pipe covers on??

My house radiator would have to come off and proper job done. Clients house, they get the option and choose which one suits their pocket.

Re: tiling around rad pipes
I took my rads off but you either have to make the hole large enough to fit around the nut as the olive is in the way for the nut to come off, hence you need a large enough drill. I though about cutting the pipe and lowering the rad but the holes in the wall would be out of line.
Lots of extra work draining the system, looks fine when done but then I don't think anybody really notices

Re: tiling around rad pipes
drill the hole before you cut the tile to depth
v cuts at the back \o/slide the off cut forward until it touches the sides no grout lines
wont work with every tile but if you use clear silicon you can get a hard to see join
just experiment on a spare tile to see if it works
