PU foam disasters

So I never used PU foam before and tried to seal and big whole in the sealing to prevent my noise from heading up into my neighbors bathroom. The foam didn't instantly stick as expected and I got the stuff all over my head, arms, chest and hands. It resulted in a complete head shave to get it off and several more bold places on my body. After 2 days of peeling my hands are getting clean as well.

Any other victims of PU to ease my pain?

Doesn't matter if I'm wearing gloves etc. I still get covered in the stuff!

yep just abit i managed to pull the tube out and threw it on some grass, it is still on the outside of the van door, bit yellow now tho

To be honest, it is probably the worst stuff anyone has to work with, but is also one of the most versatile and useful products ever developed!

I rarely use it to be honest.

Someone once recommended I buy a professional gun instead of the ones with the built in applicator, every time I used the gun I cleaned it with the special cleaner and every time it was blocked solid when I came to use it, so it went in the bin

It's awful stuff if you get it in the wrong place

My sister used it to fill the gap around a kitchen waste pipe hole under the sink and didn't realise how much the stuff expands. ........The result?............a great big clump of foam about the size of two footballs!...

I fixed a new door frame at my brothers house and the opening for the frame was about 3" wider than the door frame that was going in. I packed the door frame out evenly from both sides (bro too tight to buy any more timber). On the right hand side, there was the wires for the light switch. He eventually filled in the gaps with PU foam and a few days later asked his son to saw off the foam level with the walls. Unfortunately, as the foam had expanded, it had pulled the (live) wires out from the side of the frame. His son went a bit pale when he sawed through the wires.

I've had a few near misses changing over old cans, and to this day, I always wear safety glasses when I swap them now. Obviously there is a cleaner, which I use between ever change over, but there is also a "cured foam" paste/cream too. Its brill for clearing up drips on uPVC frames as long as you leave it on for an hour & my new employee cleaned all his hands with it last Friday night when he got home.

I worked fairly recently with a wizz-bang nutcase, he likes to build bonfires and load them up with old Paslode cartridges or anything else that might explode.

He's assured that me he won't be putting any more foam canisters on the fire; he was very very definite about it.
