Hi,
Im about to start tiling my bathroom and whilst I can see on here that you can tile over tiles i get the impression that your better taking them off, especially as the wall I want to tile is only half tiled at the moment and Im worried about getting it even. Besides the genius that fittted the existing tiles never left any spaces between the tiles so theyre all sat on each other - DOH!
The wall the tiles are on is set on plasterboard and what I want to know is........once Ive taken them off - how can I tell if the plasterboard is good enough to reapply new tiles or if I need to take the plasterboard off and start again? Ive taken one tile off already and its brought a little of the first layer of the plasterboard off with it.
Many thanks :)
Do I need to replace the plasterboard?

Re: Do I need to replace the plasterboard?
I doubt you'll get all the tiles off without damaging the plasterboard somewhere along the line - probably just when you're taking the last one off having spent ages and ages being really careful about it!!!
Probably quicker in the long run to take both out at once and then reboard. At least that way you'll have a decent, even surface to tile on to.
I'd consider reboarding with aquapanel if its a particularly wet area like a shower.

Re: Do I need to replace the plasterboard?
Thanks Inky Pete?
I might replace the bath too - would you recommend using the aqua panel on the full length of the wall i.e. behind the bath? Some vidoes Ive seen online have used a black liner of some description behind the backing board - is this what people mean when they say tanking? and do I need to do that also?
Cheers
