Which wooden floor for conservatory?

Post by Chiz »

Hello

I'm currently installing a solid oak floor in my living and dining room.

It's the solid oak stuff from B&Q which is 150mm wide and 18mm thick.

I wanted to install the same stuff (but 83mm wide instead) into my conservatory. However I'm concerned about the difference in temperature between summer and winter. Will this cause too much expansion/contraction with a solid oak floor?

Or is it the difference in moisture between summer and winter that is the real concern rather than temperature?

The narrower 83mm planks will not change size as much as the 150mm ones, but I'm still thinking this will not be a good choice for a conservatory.

I'm not gluing or nailing, rather I'm using a self adhesive foam so there is a degree of float to the floor.

Has anyone installed a solid wood floor in a conservatory?

I have never fitted this before in a conservatory, but I am sure that if you leave the required expansion gap all the way around the perimeter it should be fine.

I know a few people with Laminate in conservatories and they have no problems at all.

i you were to put it in and it was pre finished you need to make sure that it doesnt fade. the varnish has to be uv resistant which most are.
as uhm says leave plenty of gap.
