can i still use 1mm cable for two way switching

Post by jack »

I'm rewiring my parents (fully decorated!!) house and need to make the upstairs and downstairs lighting 2way. The existing pipework is too small for 2 x 1.5mm cable. Do current regs still allow me to use 1mm cable for two way switching?

As far as I am aware there is no regultaion to say that you can or can't use it. Whether or not you can use it is determined by the total load on the circuit and the fuse protecting the circuit.

Normally a lighting circuit is either a 5 amp fuse or a 6 amp mcb.

If this is what is protecting your lighting circuit then it should be fine

Lighting circuit is 6amp mcb so looks like i will be ok. Parents will be happy to hear i do not need to destroy their hallway. :thumbright:
