I have DVD maker from Kworld, about £20 quid.

Plug one end in the recorder and the other in a usb port. and away you go.

Mine is for xp/vista, but I assume they would do the same job for 7.

Maplins also had something when I was in the shop the other day.

Video or Data DVD gadget?

If video, there are several programs on the market, my current method of backing up my DVDs I use frequently is to install the following ripit4me! ( http://ripit4me.en.softonic.com/ ), DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink (Ripit4me! used to install the other 2 but I don't know if it still does)
So far it hasn't failed to rip many discs, very few failed to rip and most of those were due to scores and scratches.

It's a video, and I need it on my PC so I can post it on to a forum I use, I thought perhaps I could load it to my PC directly from my disc drive but it seems not, but thanks for the help chaps.

Gadget: Reason for that is mainly due to CSS (Content Scrambling System) which is designed to stop you just copying the files from the disc, meaning you have to decrypt the disc first, then copy it onto your computer.
Disclaimer: Be aware of copyright legislation, unless you hold the copyright or have a licence to publicly post the video you are likely to be breaching copyright law which can land you and the website owner in legal hot water, people can be and have been traced through forum posts etc and pursued by lawyers. (though there are usually exceptions which permit excerpts and also it depends on the copyright status, though almost anything on DVD is still covered by publisher and creators copyright)

The DVD was copied from a 1960's privately made film (16mm) that was taken in the 60's, so I don't think copyright comes into it!

Gadget: Fair enough, I just had to give that disclaimer, just in case. All too easy nowadays to be tarred with the "faciliating copyright infringement tarry brush"

Might not be CSS'd then, best way to put it online would be to convert it to Xvid or Avi and if its not massively long, stick it on youtube and link to it?
