talktalk scam or not

Post by The Weegie »

Recieved a call this morning from a guy from talktalk. He said that my e-mails were running slowly and that I had to download software.

The software that he asked me to download were Teamviewer.
Very suspicious that they would phone me and ask me to download software. When I asked the guy how do I know he is from talk talk. He proceded to tell me my address. At this point I said that anybody could get my address over the internet. The line then went dead.

I have been on the phone to talktalk for over half an hour trying to get through. ::b ::b

Anybody heard of this company. When I went into the main page he asked me to click on the button that says JOIN IN A SESSION.

Very suspicious.

Sounds dodgey to me. I know a few people who've had a slightly different scam. They've been telephoned and told there's a problem with their computer. They are asked to check a few things on their computer, told they have problems even when they don't, then told they need to buy some software to fix it.

Weegie,
You were right to be suspicious.
Teamviewer is a genuine program to enable someone to remotely access your computer to help correct computer problems BUT if someone wants you to install it, especially someone you don't know, it is a NO NO!

Teamviewer:
TeamViewer - the All-In-One Solution for Remote Access and Support over the Internet

TeamViewer connects to any PC or server around the world within a few seconds. You can remote control your partner's PC as if you were sitting right in front of it.
I wouldn't bother trying to contact Talktalk now as it does not appear to be them that contacted you. Unless you want to report it but unless you dialed 1471 and got the caller's number there is very little that TT can do.

Contacted Talktalk. No record of any calls being made to my phone.

When I done 1471 the phone number was 0800 00

I stupidly clicked on JOIN IN A SESSION. However I came out of it within seconds due to being suspicious.

:boxing:

Cheers guys.

Teamviewer is an excellent piece of software but he would need to know your IP address and a set password in order for him to gain access

Do you know since I have posted this I have had 9 calls from these idiots. Saying the usual pish. They phoned this morning saying that they were from Microsoft internet security centre. Then said I believe that you are having problems with your internet.
I pretended to him that I did and pretended to get upset on the phone, saying my internet my internet is broke and crying. He then says Oh dear and hangs up.

I hope they phone back again I am going to have a laugh again. IDIOTS. :angryfire:
