HELP !!!

Post by pistonbroke1957 »

Evening all
My computer keeps sending spam emails to everyone on my contacts list.
This is happening at times when the computer is turned off.
I've got Avast Antivirus,Lavasoft Adaware and Malwarebytes all installed, running and fully updated and have run full system scans with each of these but each time no 'infections' have been found.
Any ideas ?
Cheers

Which email are you using, Outlook, Googlemail, Yahoo or what?

Do you get regular emails (jokes and such like) from someone which have loads of previous addresses still showing, and do you forward them still with all the previous addresses on?

Have you run your AV and antimalware scans in safe node?

The problem is probably not on your computer at all but on an infected computer on your mailing list, that has had the address book harvested. Is every single address in your address book receiving these emails or just some? If not everyone, then it is on another computer.

They will soon end becausae the spammers do not use the 'From' address too long in case they are traced.

As a final resort, you could change your email account by setting up a new one with new passwords and tell your contacts to ignore mail from your old address, but this will not stop the mail from your old addreess, just time will do it.

Thanks for the reply DAVE M
I'm using Internet Explorer and my email is Hotmail. Yes,everyone of my contacts is receiving
the SPAM and yes i've run all the scans in Safe Mode.
A friend has suggested that because the SPAM is always sent when the computer is turned off, that the problem could be with Hotmail itself. Does that sound feasible ?

As it is being sent when your PC is OFF then it is from somewhere else, whether Hotmail or another infected computer , it is not from yours and yours is not now infected.
You could set up a 'gmail' account from Google, for now and use that. Also change your access password to your Hotmail account.
There is really not much else you can do, except ust the gmail account and tell all yopur frinds to ignore any Hotmail form you.
