mse help

Can anyone help with this ,well did what dave said and now that i have reinstalled mse i get this message

security esentials could not complete the virus and spyware definitions update on
04/03/2011,23:10 due to an internet or network connectivity issue.

Just on my way out the door, but just to check a few quick things:

- you don't have any other firewall/av software installed that could be blocking it
- The date and time is correct on your system - this will block it (double click the clock in the system tray)
- You have a genuine copy of windows or the copy you have is activated (it relies on the Windows Update engine to perform updates)
- you do have internet...... ;)

Don't worry about updating the definitions because it will not run on your computer anyway.

just go to Control Panel -> Add/Remove and click the MSE and click 'Uninstall at the top of the window.

That should get rid of it and the other bad download that you had.

Post back when you have uninstalled it.

Thank's for your reply, BillyGoat not sure about any other firewall/av software as they always say there may be some files left that hide ...dont they?
and the clock should be fine, but will check/ and yes a genuine copy,
also 10 mb broadband virgin media and yes xp!

Hiya dave , well i removed mse then reinstalled last night ,then the update would not finish due to what i said about the network something issue,
and all the time the logo is red,( bit like me)
so i tried to uninstall it again last night, sorry but the f***er would not uninstall yet again
so when i put my reliable pc on to day it uninstalled (im afraid to smile)
so do you think that mse is a good thing for me
sorry again but feck all the thieving ******* that are out there,
i never shop online im confused
should i thak it back to factory settings and buy a good anti virus?

Aileen only has 128MB of RAM and on XP it needs a minimum of 256MB:

Minimum system requirements for Microsoft Security Essentials:

For Windows XP, a PC with a CPU clock speed of 500 MHz or higher, and 256 MB RAM or higher.

Great stuff Dave done it! i have got Avast
will need to take time here and there to read about it and get the best use of it but at last im protected. I did a full scan and a quick scan " no threats found" is this to good to be true
anyway Dave i will need to try speed my pc up a bit. I think a lot of it is to do with not having things set proper.
Im trying to teach myself things about the computer but it is a lot of reading, then the links, that have me forgetting what i was reading about in the first place.
I right clicked on my computer, then system properties and in the user profile's i found this.

Are you a night shift worker or what?
I cannot reply at that time as I am normally in the land of nod.

You will not be able to speed up your computer a great deal as it is lacking any real memory size, only having 128MB of RAM.

Just always make sure that your antivirus program and the antispyware software is upto date with the definitions.

Windows Defender (antispyware) will work on your computer, so download and install it from HERE and check the settings to set it to scan and update regularly.

That way, with Avast for your antivirus and Windows Defender for your antispyware, you should be pretty well protected, so long as the Windows Firewall is trurned on too.

Ayup flowers.

Dave is right, you won't speed it up much without the memory....you have 128MB (a single stick of PC133 SDRAM) but have two more slots for a couple more (providing it's not had the motherboard changed for a different model in its life).

I'm away until tomorrow, but I'm quite sure I've got some laying around at home you are welcome too, but let me check. It's entirely up to you - but I might not be able to test it for you. As long as you take some caution when putting it in, there shouldn;'t be an issue.

I'll see what I have and let you know, even if we drag you upto a GB (1024) it will make a big difference.
