Preserving Firefox tabs when closing

Post by Mooncat »

I used to be able to click to save tabs when closing the browser, but since my computer has been thoroughly scanned for malware, I can't, I just get a warning that I am about to close X number of tabs. How do I re-instate it?
I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.

In FireFox go to Tools -> Options -> Tabs. Tick the "Warn me when closing multiple tabs" .

Rich, I already have that, what I want is to have all the tabs I had last session along the top, so I can quickly check for updates etc, without trawling through the History URLs.
I started out with nothing, I still have most of it.

When I tick that option and close FireFox, I get the message "Do you want Firefox to save your tabs for the next time it starts?" I click Save and Quit, then when I reopen Firefox all the tabs are ready to use.

If you can't find the solution to doing it your way you might want to consider setting up a *Bookmarks toolbar* this will sit just below the main title bar on the page and you can put in there the bookmarks you use most often.

Just a click of the mousewheel will then open one up in a new tab.
One day it will all be firewood.

That's exactly what I used to be able to do, but now can't. I do bookmark, but you have to remember to do it every time! :cb

Have you been using the latest version of Ccleaner? That has an option to delete session information and could be causing your problem. In CCleaner, go to the Cleaner section, then the Applications tab. Untick "Session" under Firefox/Mozilla.

You could be right, I'll ask Mooncat Jr (sysadmin) when he comes in from his night shift tomorrow.

MC,
Which version of Forefox do you use?
Check whether MC Jnr has updated to the v4 of Firefox.

The 'problem' with Google chrome is that Google gathers all your browsing habits. For speed use Opera or Lunascape 6. To get back to the OP, always select File then Exit - this will then come up with message box to have Save and Quit - if you use the cross in the top-right corner you will not get this option.

MC,

One change in Firefox 4 is to by default stop Firefox displaying the warning message, but it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.

1. Type about:config into the location (address) bar and press enter
2. Accept the warning message that appears,

you will be taken to a list of preferences

3. Locate the preference browser.tabs.warnOnClose,
if its value is set to false, double-click on it to change its value to true

4. Repeat this for these 2 preferences

browser.warnOnQuit, browser.warnOnRestart

5. Starting with beta 12 there will be an additional preference

that needs to be set to true - browser.showQuitWarning

I guess we really shouldn't be leaving tabs open for security reasons - one work around would be to open a text editor and save the links as .rtf document and copy and paste into browser address bar?

How is saving tabs to the next session a security risk on a computer with just one user?

Using File > Quit makes no difference.
