I have been busy in the shop for the past couple of days trying to replicate these Oak cabinet doors and drawer fronts.


I wasn't making enough to have a set of cutters made for the spindle moulder so used a variety of cutters for the router hand held and table use. I got the drawer fronts made ready for a finish today.

I also got the three doors glued up in clamps ready for tomorrow. I have pre finished the centre panels as they are solid wood.


I think the easiest part was making and fitting the square dowels. I SHALL be glad to see the back of them though!

are those green clamps "soft touch" and dont mark or a " light clamp"

Thanks guys. Big al they are the Dakota clamps from Rutlands and they are very similar to the Besseys they have a plastic covering. They won't pull up as tight as sash cramps but they can pull a fair pressure. I do like Oak too Scruff but find it very splintery when it is Kiln Dried. Had to be very careful when routing the edges on these to stop them splintering.

I find Oak gives me the coughs and also plays havoc with my hands.

Excellent job again Mailee. Must admit to hating working with oak though. As you say, kiln dried tends to splinter badly. Oak splinters ain't the easiest ones to dig out of your hands either.

well I finally got them finished at last. I have one more job to do and that is drill the hinge holes when I find out which side they are on.

I think they have turned out well in the end.
I know just what you mean about Oak splinters John, I am still picking them out.

Well the customer came to see the doors today and gave me a shock! He told me his wife had ordered the wrong size with the 600 door and front! Oh my God! He has asked me if I can make another one this time 500mm wide with a drawer front. He realises it will cost him more of course and the best bit is he willstill take the 600 pair too. He is over the moon with the doors too which is good news. When he left I got to work on another and started with those difficult top mouldings.

And by the end of the day I had the frame complete and a drawer front finished ready for staining.

I ran out of oak for the panel so will have to buy some more tomorrow.
