Opening .3gp & mpeg4 files

Been sent some files, but can't open them with Windows Media Player. How to open them without buying anything?

VLC awesome, will play pretty much anything you chuck at it! :)

I use VLC, although windows media player will play most stuff anyway

The 3gp files play in Quicktime, and Mpeg4 in VLC. All the videos were ABSOLUTE RUBBISH!
