I started off with an apology for the blunt appraisal.

Whether you are a qualified carpenter or first project DIY'er, the comment would have been the same, from me. A qualified carpenter wouldn't have got an apology

I gave you encouragement to go onto better things. That bench is an accident waiting to happen. Might be a small accident to laugh over but can just as easily be someone breaking their back, when it collapses.

I hope you do post future work on here and we can all congratulate you on the improvements you are making as you gain confidence and ability.

I think it is more important to have a go at making something to gain experience. Design and build is pretty difficult to master and there are some good carpenters that just have no idea when it comes to design and either copy others ideas or build from plans. One thing that you have to work out is what stresses are to be imposed on the piece and with a bench you have have downward weight carrying and lateral movements. Once you see the stress demands you can devise methods to counteract them. As has been said, your bench is missing some bracing but other than that it looks sturdy enough.

As for selling in E Bay I do not think you will arouse much interest from a load of penny pinching, something for nothing cheapskates. Try local newsagents advert boards which cost a few pence a week to hit local people in your area. You see these in Supermarkets too. But, as was also said, you need it to look attractive and it is the little finishing bits that make it desirable.

Do not give up, enjoy your woodwork and learn by mistakes.
