Corner display cabinet

Post by mailee »

I have just finished this corner cabinet for a customer. Well almost as I have had to order the glass. It is MRMDF painted in a satin sheen AC. There will be three glass shelves in the top section to display glassware.

Nice, bet it looks good fitted.

Type of furniture you find in old farm houses. :thumbright:

My customer told me he had contacted another cabinet maker first who came and had a look at the job in hand and said he would return with a price......he didn't! Well his loss is my gain as the customer said he will definitely recommend me in the future. :D

May I ask why you do not use concealed hinges Maillee? I have to say that the hinge knuckles look out of place these days. Not criticising, just interested.

Excellent piece of furniture. I quite like the exposed hinges.

Is the narrower top section really off-centre from the base or is it an optical illusion/camera angle issue? (or possibly my eyesight :? )

I do normally use concealed hinges on most of my cabinets but on this one the glass door frame was quite narrow and would have been very close to the glass. In this case I think it looks right for the project with the brass hinges showing. On the other side of the hall way is a small unit with the same hinges as this fitted so it did look correct to the settings.
Yes Southwood your eyes don't decieve you it is offset from the base. This was to make the most of the space available for the lower cabinet and keep the glass cabinet behind the glass light of the front door. If I had made the top cabinet central on the bottom it would have given a very strange angle on the lower cabinet top. This was the best solution to gain as much space for the lady's crystal glass objects which the cabinet will house.

like the way you have measured up the opening correctly with the door frame. i thought the top was out of ballance in the first picture, but in place in the hall it all falls in to place.

nice job :thumbleft:

an excellent job as always cannot find fault with the workmanship use of space and in the circumstances best solution buuuttt
if there are other units it matches then its got to be
in my humble opinion rather than have the skirting as a plinth it would have looked a bit lighter less extreme from one end to the other if you had a 4" high rebate/kick board but that's just personal taste

and as we all know the customer is always right   :salute:

Thanks guys. I agree with you Big al the plith does look a bit overpowering and with hindsight I would have changed this but the customer was happy with it this way. As you say the customer is always right.
