Hi all,
I was surfing you tube last night as I normally do for intersting bits. I came across a site to show you how to tile a bathroom. I had a few thoughts on there claims of number of subscribers and a few other things.
Anyway carried on watching was very good presentation and good detail a few things I didnt agree to but I am no expert. I have also had comments from tilers not to grout in corners and meeting edges as the grout will crack . I posted a comment with response to this which I recieved back. As you can see the said person has been to my website and seems to be very upset to what I have said.

I read with interest yourt comment on You Tube.

It is absolutely vital that grout is placed in the corners of tiled walls and indeed in every position where tiles meet.

Grout (if movement takes place) can be repaired and regrouted easily. When walls move (however flexible the mastic) any mastic is simply torn from the tile surface unseen. This leads to leaks as is the case on almost every bath installed incorrectly.

Mastic in corners is ponly used by tilers who cannot cut tiles properly and want to hide their work. It is not required and completely uneccesary.

I will not embarras you by replying publically in You Tube but please refrain fro m givinbg "Handyman" tips to professional tradesmen when they are so obviously incorrect.

What are your views ?

Gonna be a lot of leaky baths if the silicon lets go every time there's movement.

I thought that was what silicon was for.

I agree Scruff, you imagine where silicone and water mix with no problems of leaks.

I can cut tiles exact...................................I don't grout internals though. Tell him to go and look and British Standards.

The least you could have done was shoved a link in for the vid................lol

I have always used silicone in corners to hide the expansion gap.

Grout just cracks and looks awful and lets water through.

How many subscribers does he have?

The bloke is an idiot anyway......................he states that tilers will make a rod to work out how many tiles to use, where they will be on the wall and size of cuts....................ha ha feckedy ha. I must look a right old Rodney when I measure the wall and do maths in my head............... and there is more

No need for special backer type boards ( agree with that) as long as workmanship is good.

Tiles are water proof...................no they feckeding well aren't.
Tile adhesive is waterproof..........see last comment.
grout is water proof................No it isn't as he was talking about normal and not epoxy resin grout.

I would have loved to have been in the audience cos I would have told him he was a bodging nob head.
