Suction towel rail

Post by newdud »

Hi

I have had the bathroom tilled recently. I need to fit a towel rail etc.
I am very reluctant drill newly finished tiles. :?

Most DIY shops sell suction towel rail / toilet roll holder. Are they any good? do they stay on the wall or fall down and do more damage than good :cb

Any advice would be helpful

Thanks

I was woken by an almighty crash earlier this year and assumed the house was being burgled. It turned out to be the bathroom 'hold all' basket that held the shower gel, etc. Yes, you guessed, it was attached with suction pads. They're a load of bo++ocks in my opinion. They rely on atmospheric pressure to hold the cups against the tile, each applying 14.7 psig. Trouble is, the suckers will always have a certain leak rate and when the pressure can no longer support the weight it will do what Newton said it would do. Fall. I don't trust them now. Best to have good old plugs and screws in my opinion. With a good drill bit there is no problem drilling tiles....just turn the hammer action off!

I am a newbie at diy and tiling but we had to drill into ours. I used plenty of masking tape and some tile drills from screwfix and it went ok.

Good luck :thumbright:

As above. Except if they are porcelain tiles you'll be better off with a 6mm diamond core bit.

I know it is nearly a month ago but I was in Aldi in Blackpool yesterday and they still had some, so may be worth a trip to your local Aldi if nearby and see if they have any left.
