A project with a twist

Post by EddieJ »

This one kind of evolved to be very much different from my original start intention.

I had intended to build a rose arch from circles, but rather than have them flat as laid out below, I was going to twist each one by approx 30 degrees.

After gathering them all back up again, I inadvertently laid them into a spiral, and the rest as they say is history.

The rose arch would never have worked anyway. Big sheet of ply would have stopped people walking through!

The maggot statue looks good though. Or could it be a caterpillar. Good bit of art when there are a few possibilities of what it resembles.

I might have to nick that idea. BTW, why didn't you use all the discs?

Royaloakcarpentry, thanks for the tip about the rose arch.
I don't know why, but it didn't seem to photograph very well. The shape makes far more sense when seen in the flesh so to speak, than it does in the photos.

Southwood, when I machined up the discs, there was sap wood on some of them, so I threw them away.
The overall height is 800mm, which seemed to work quite well for a bird bath.
