Dirty Deeds

Post by panlid »

can someone please tell DD on TT that i think the guy is on about cutting a double ended scribe on a piece of skirting to make it quicker working your way round a room.
always haveing a left or right sided scribe at hand sort of thing.
thats all i can think off as i agree that it is a lesson on the futility of life to fit a double ended scribe.
bit like doing double ended scribes on worktops ::b

Guys,
I read the post your talking about and I would like clarity, I'm all electric'd out at the moment.

Are you saying you shouldn't scribe both ends of a skirting/dado/picture rail as you cannot leave any gap for expansion, like leave a 2 to 3 mill gap on the 'blunt' end as the scribe will cover the gap? Or have I got the wrong end of the skirting board?

It's just my uncontrollable need to learn that makes me ask. :?

what bodgers and armchair critics dont understand is that doing a job right is FAR quicker and easier than any bodge or dreamed up notion.

carpenters do things in certain ways because its quick and easy and always works

a double ended scribe is not quick, it isnt easy and it doesnt always work

the most easily understood example of how difficult a double ended scribe is a kitchen worktop with two fixed ends, where the back edge is longer than the front so up cant slide it in.

you cant bend a worktop to spring it in. the ONLY way to get the worktop in is to cut it shorter than it should be lift one end high and then drop it in.

pythogoras is the reason

You can put a 3 degree cut on one end to help pythagoras but when its in it looks like a nasty little bodge job
