Shower enclosure with window, do I have it right?

Thats the corner where my shower enclosure will be including window. Im tiling it, havent chosen tiles or anything yet but:

1) Whole enclosure (inc window reveals etc) is plasterboarded in green MR plasterboard, advisable to tile straight onto?

2) Tray goes in first yes then tile down onto it?

3) Im finishing the tiles after the enclosure so it will be 800mm out from the corner either way +1 more tile. So I just start from the tray and corner and work out ye? Best sized spacers to use in shower area? Will be tiling to a height of 7ft

4) Window reveals: is it best to start with these or do the (easier I think?) walls first?



Any other general tips or pointers for this kind of application? Im guessing this is one of the easier tiling jobs as the tiles "finish" ie. they dont continue around the room?

Because of the window I would advise you tank the area with something like BAL WP1, i'd advise you do it anyway but more so with the window and possible pooling of water.

Tiling straight out from the corner is not advisable unless your walls are 100% level, and I do mean 100%. It is much better to set out the tiles so you have equal cuts all the way around but how you do this will change depending on the size of the tile. Keep in mind some types of tiles will need extra consideration depending on what type they are.

Tiling a shower is straight forward and easy, but only if you know what you are doing! Showers are the one area in a bathroom that is most likely to leak and cause damage if you get it wrong. Use the best materials you can and take your time getting it right. It is important you don't grout in the corner but silicone instead the same is to be said where the tiles meet the tray and enclosure

When you say 100% level and equal cuts, what cuts are you referring to? The only tiles I plan on cutting are those inside the window reveal, and on the wall face between the window and corner?

You want to set out and position the tiles to give them most pleasing effect, of course that is not the 'easiest' way to do it. Personally I think it will
look awful just tiling to give you the least among of cuts.

The Walls need to be 100% level if you are using them as a guide to tile off as if it isn't your tiling will start to run out and again look awful, this is why it is better to finish with a cut tile in the corners so if the Walls are out (and they will be) the difference can be taken up by careful cutting of the tiles

You should also set out the tiles so the cuts are either half a tile or greater, tiny little cuts again will bring the whole job down.

I think you need to think about your layout...I have Bastardised your drawing to show what i'm talking about..the red line is the corner of the room..As Colour Republic says unless this is pefectly plumb and square you will need to cut tiles for this area...

You also need to consider where the cuts will go around the window area..depending on the size layout of your tiles...ideally centre the tiles on the window, or if you are very lucky you may be able to centre a tile in the window...
