Cutting long and thin bits

Post by kellys_eye »

I have to fit some 600 x 300 porcelain tiles into a 1000mm space - typically this means having to cut two 50mm wide strips from one tile (along the longest length) to fill the 'extra' 100mm space the 3 x 300mm will leave.

Any hints/tips to get this done without tears? I tried to get a tile cutter but the largest I could find only fit 500mm long tiles :wtf: and I'm thinking 'angle grinder with suitable cutting disk' but my tiling skills are minimal to say the least..... :?

TIA

I use a 4" grinder with a diamond blade on these but have to say if you're left with a cut of less than half a tile you're starting in the wrong place.

Starting with a tile either side of the centerline gives you a full tile and a 200mm cut either side and you use the same number of tiles

I think you will struggle to cut good quality porcs with a TS60.

Where have you seen a TS-60 for £125?? second hand?

I've used my TS on grade 5 before with no probs, albeit the TS-Plus version with greater breaker pressure.

How do I deterrmine the 'grade'? Nothing shown on box or tiles themselves (except - Homebase 'Vision Mud R61'). What difference would the grade make to the success of cutting them?

I'd say price is a good indicator!

As for the cut, why not get a Wickes wet cutter jobbie for £40.
Had one for years and still going strong - cut all sorts on it.
If at first you don't succeed - remove all evidence that you tried.
