Burning CD's

Post by Simon Site Manager »

Hi Guys,

Have a new Acer i5 laptop, tried for the first time today to burn a CD, having big problems! Tried it on i-tunes, it starts burn then stops, so I transferred the files to Windows Media Player, it burns a bit of the first song then after 99% burnt comes up tells me that the DVD writer is busy, have been on National Panasonic's website to check I have the latest driver, have been on Microsoft's repair site that tells me there was a problem but it is now fixed.....well it ain't! I am try to burn onto CD-R and have trashed 10 of them already. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Simon

Have you tried dropping the burn speed to the next one down? Eg, if it says it will burn at 48x, change it to 32x

Still won't take long.

Have you used these CDs elsewhere? Could be a bad batch of cheapos (what brand are they?)

Hi Rich,
Thanks for getting back to me, have dropped the speed, discs are Tesco's but not the cheapies! Have read on-line that other people have had problems writing discs by the Mashita DVD-RAM UJ890AS.

Machine is only a month old so back to PC World for me!

Yeah, don't blame you. Get them to prove it works in front of you, or get a replacement.

Bought a replacement today, 'bout 25 quid, the alternative was to wait for 2 weeks for the repair and could not get a temp replacement laptop 'cos I didn't have their rip-off insurance......burning is working fine now...Cheers Richie!

You don't need their rip off insurance.

Take it back and tell them if they can't fix it while you wait you want your money back or replacement.

They tried that with a tom tom I got from them. ::b

Agree with scruff.

I take it this means you've bought an external DVD-RW? You shouldn't have to pay out for anything if it's faulty.

You don't have too, tell em you want a refund, then buy another.

Exactly how old is it.
