tiling bathroom plasterboard advice

hi, newbie here .
can u guys advise me regarding tiling onto plasterboard in bathroom?
as you can see some of the plaster has come off the boards with the old tile.
do i need to have the boards re-skimmed or should i remove the rest of the old plaster & tile onto board?

Easier to replace the boards. Those are knackered. Then you've got a nice flat surface to tile onto. Don't bother getting the new boards skimmed.

the plaster on the damaged boards (2 walls) looks like it will just scrape off..should i try & remove it all first...if unsucessful then replace the boards? sorry to ask but i'm looking for the easy options? never replaced plasterboard before!

looks to me like the boards are up back to front as ATG says rip em out and replace with new and dont skim em, not the easier optio but DEFO the best solution!

sorry to go on guys...
i really dont fancy ripping boards out...why shouldnt i try removing all of the old plaster from damaged board??
or is this an impossible task? looks like its just gonna scrape away?

Replacing boards is very easy. rip the old ones down and use a cordless screwdriver to screw new ones (Moisture resistant) in their place. 1.2m x2.4m boards cost less than a tenner.

I have a question for you. Is that a pink bath, and if so, are you sure you should be keeping it?

i know im gonna get told off...but whats the issue with trying to scrape old plaster off boards?

The pictures look like the boards are the wrong way round. I think they are just the old style boards, in which case they are correct.

You could scrape the plaster off, but I would replace using moisture resistant board for longevity. If the bath was taken out, it would take me a couple of hours at most to remove and replace, hence why I would do it.

If it's a metal or timber framed wall you normally end up making holes in the board anyway!

The guys are giving their opinion as professionals - for us it's almost always quicker and cheaper for the client to rip out and start afresh but it's your house if you want to spend hours getting the old stuff off it's your choice

hi again,
took your advice & ordered some new water resistant plasterboards

once fitted ,do i need to coat boards before tiling on em?

the missus is dragging me to topps tiles.

do i need bal primer first?

what u recommend?

I use tilers primer because I have a couple of gallons of it, but I don't think you need it for MR boards because they aren't absorbent. Manufacturers instructions I would suggest.

When you put up the new boards, try to ensure that the plasterboard joins are not in the same place as the grout lines.

And when you're at Topps, don't be talked into buying any adhesive from them or you'll have to re-mortgage.
