Chipped floor tile - repair help please!

Not so long ago the kitchen floor was retiled with this tile http://www.mosa.nl/en/algemeen/collecti ... zegel=1650 with a really dark grey grout.

Then the unthinkable happened, something heavy dropped on to it and caused a crack across the whole tile - small bits of tile have now come away leaving a few sharp edges and some small unsightly chips (approx. 4mm wide by 30mm)

Is this damage repairable???

remove the surrounding grout and replace with the half box off spares that are in the attic/under the stairs/under the kitchen plinths
matching the grout is the difficult part

do not try and lever on the edge off other tiles remove the tile carefully from the center
hardboard /cardboard around the area to catch splinters and stop you damaging other tiles with your tools

Hmmm the thing is we have no spares, the tiles are not from the UK so getting even an aditional box is pretty impossible. Eek. I'm thinking perhaps a rug may be the solution!

where about it the tile? Could you get away with just buying one decorative tile with the same colour scheme that you could put in (following Big Al's advice)?

I would try any of your nearest tile suppliers to see if you can source one, or failing that try a direct sob story approach to the original suppliers, they may be prepared to send you one.

Another alternative would be to find a contrasting feature tile and put half a dozen of them in the floor dotted around or maybe in a panel if the position is suitable.

if you have some in an area covered by an appliance or will not normally be seen the try and release it
better if you have at least four available as you may need to break one to get underneath another one
replace the tiles with more tiles or ply

if you didnt lay the tiles look under the plinths for spares

for other reading this thread
if you moved in to the house with the tiles already laid look in sheds out house under the stars in the attic cupboards under the bath under the plinths in fact anywhere they could be hidden as a professional would always leave spares

Just a note: after removing the surrounding grout from the affected tile, as Big Al says do not attempt to prise / lever the tile up, as it will damage others, one hard strike of a hammer to the centre of the damaged tile, and the tile will crack fully in many places without affecting the others, then you can lift up the pieces seperately, scrape the adhesive off the substrate and replace with a spare (or your chosen tile)
