Basin first or tiles first

Post by nigmyk »

Fitting out small cloakroom with corner basin and floor to ceiling tiles. Is it best to put in basin first and tile round it or to mount basin on top of tiles? One wall is plastered brick, the other is brick drylined with board and skimmed. thanks.

Tile first, otherwise you'll be looking at some very fiddly tile cutting...

It is best to tile first. Having said that the dry lined wall will be tricky to get the mounting screws in through the tile. Not an area I am great in I have to say but I think I would get the mounting screws in the wall before tiling that course of tiles. Drill holes in the tiles to slip over the screws and fix them on at that point. Might seem a bit daft but that is how I would tackle it in case it is a bast to get the screw in the drylined wall.
