Diamond Pattern

Hi everyone

Will be embarking on another phase of the learning curve that is renovating! Firstly thank you to everyone here who has helped with good advice and endless tips

As the title says, I am planning a diamond patterned floor for the utility, not a big area and will be using 600x600mm tiles. My thinking was to start in the middle of the room with a whole tile (turned 45deg) and work my way from there? I have ordered a T5 angle finder and was hoping for any top tips any of you pro's might have to help me?

With tiles that big you will have to ensure that the floor is dead level.

The larger the tile the more difficult it is to get them level.

Also some tile cutters do not cut diagonals well, so you will need a decent tile cutter

Middle of the room, from middle of door, middle of something else...................depends on lay out of room and how cuts work out.

Diagonals normally look better in a larger room.

To set out a diagonal floor, centre the room ie: mark the middle of the floor at each end, draw your central line joining up these marks, then centre the other way, your first tile should be centred totally from point to point on your first central line ( this is sounding complicated!)
The best scribe cutter for this project will be a TX1200 ( good tile shops hire these daily ) as you can use the breaker on any part of the tile, with any diagonal pattern, a soldier corse or border works better as you can deternine your own cuts as opposed to being forced into silly triangles ie: half tile cuts with a 150mm border etc.
make sure your substrate is totally level, a self levelling compound is recommended prior to tiling to avoid lipping ( raised edges of tiles), and use a minimum of 10mm trowel, also use a 600mm spirit level on each and every tile to avoid increasing or decreasing heights. usually these days 600mm x 600mm are porcelain and rectified edge, not for the faint hearted or unexperienced, especially on the diagonal. Good luck with your project, well achievable but it will be challenging.

Looks more hassle than a Sigma, but a good price in Nichols and Clarke. TXN 700 it looks like but can't remember if they are £336. Does ring a bell, that price. (alarm bells lol)

Mainly aimed at the OP for reassurance, they can look OK for a small area too, (I was doubtful when someone suggested it), so I tried these both ways and they actually looked better on the diagonal.

Sorry, couldn't wait for the wife to get the broom out.
