HOWDENS BASE UNIT

Post by Dazzer »

Chaps, can anyone help me on this please?

I'm installing a kitchen from Howdens that has been in storage for a year so just checking all the bits are there and getting familiar with it

The plan they've done shows the unit run on both the return walls (at 90 degrees to the sink wall)in its entire length starting right from the corner (fine with that as a concept).

There are no corner units, just 1000mm base units..

I picked up the installation guide from Howdens yesterday and that states that base units going into corners are to be fixed a certain distance from the wall (think it's about 130mm) - is this correct and if so why's that - is it to allow for the width of the worktop from the wall?

thanks

it's less than 130mm but yes they do not sit up against the corner. The 1000 base unit will have a 500mm door and then a corner fillet.

TBH it sounds like you have never fitted a kitchen before so this could be a steep learning curve for you. For a good installtion you need to be thinking 5 steps ahead all the time. I would say your best off getting someone with experiance in to help you with it.

thanks CR, I've got a fitter who's overseeing it for me and will help on the worktop joints but I'm setting it out and fitting to the wall - just trying to think ahead before I actually do anything really - but you are right, it's a steep learning curve - normally I shy away from this work and only do doors and architrave etc.

All the doors as you know come seperately packed with their kitchens, as do the corner posts for any corner base units.

If you have two units meeting each other in a corner, better to fix them together first with the corner post supplied, before fixing to the wall - the distance usually works out 130 - 135mm depending on how true the corner is.
