Post by everyjourney »

tiles on my worktop in a small area the grout has receded, they are old, grout is brown. can I top it up with brown grout or would i need to have it professionally done... is it a huge and costly job to replace tiled worktop and splashback, about 5metres, double sink and hob cutout...thanks

You should be able to do it yourself with a flexible, waterproof grout. I am sure you can get special grouts for food preperation areas (could be wrong).

The hard thing will be matching the colour

Thanks

Its brown like milk chocolate..
Sorry if this is silly question, does grout come coloured or do you add colour to it?
Do I just spread it over or do I have to dig some of the old grout out?

You can get coloured grout.

You'd have to remove the old grout first, if you try going over the top it will soon come loose.

The Bosch pmf180e is good for grout removal-

I second that.

I grouted a whole bathroom floor and walls with mosaics last week in epoxy

epoxy is the only grout that is non porous, remember grouting a whole subway in London with it, as it was spec'd, try this http://www.bal-adhesives.co.uk/products/easypoxy
